Bij vrouwen die niet geïnfecteerd zijn met het humaan papillomavirus (HPV) is het quadrivalente HPV-vaccin zeer effectief (91 procent). Dit blijkt uit een studie onder vrouwen in de leeftijd van 24 tot 45 jaar, waarvan de resultaten deze week in de Lancet worden gepubliceerd.

Results from an observational study in Australia establish that after only one year of a comprehensive vaccination programme with the four-type (6,11,16,18) human papillomavirus (HPV) Gardasil® major benefits are already being seen. The study results will be presented at the 25th International Papillomavirus Conference – IPV – in Malmö, Sweden.

Op dit jaarlijkse congres bespreken experts de laatste stand van de wetenschap met betrekking tot het humaan papillomavirus. Het virus dat onder meer baarmoederhalskanker en genitale wratten veroorzaakt. Tijdens dit congres heeft Sanofi Pasteur MSD een drietal onderzoeksresultaten gepresenteerd.
